C294 – Double pole DC contactor up to 1,500 V
Compact DC contactor (2 make contacts) with optimised design for 1,500 V rated insulation voltage. Frequent switching under load.
C294 A
The double pole DC contactor C294 can switch on and carry high currents. It was designed for switching frequently under load. Thanks to an optimised design, the C294 achieves a rated insulation voltage of 1,500 volts in a compact design.
In order to control switching arcs safely, design A possesses blowout magnets, arcing chambers and quenching plates. Using an auxiliary switch, the contact state can be reported to the higher-level control system.
Developed for use in transport technology, the C294 can be used in a wide range of DC applications – even in extreme temperatures of minus 40 to plus 70 degrees Celsius. This is an especially reliable piece of switchgear with a longer-than-average electrical service life.
Features
The double pole DC contactor C294 offers a rated insulation voltage of 1,500 volts with minimal dimensions. In order to achieve the prescribed insulation parameters (clearance and creepage distances), the design has been optimised.
The rated voltage is 1,000 volts per contact system and 1,500 volts for the series connection of both poles.
During switch off, an electric arc is ignited between the opening contacts. The current flows on through the ionised air. Permanent magnets drive the ionised air out of the contact zone into the arcing chamber. Here, the electric arc is extended and cooled until it goes out.
Each contact system of the C294 DC contactor disconnects currents of up to 60 A with a voltage of 1,000 V (L/R = 1 ms). If the main contacts are connected in series, the C294 disconnects currents of up to 120A with 1,500 V (L/R = 1 ms).
An S870 snap-action switch reports the switch state of both contact systems to the higher-level control system. This changeover contact with positive opening is suitable for safety applications.
The C294 is designed for switching loads frequently. The electrical service life is 600,000 switching operations (Ui = 1,200 V DC, I = 30 A, L/R = 1 ms, per contact system).
Based on its approval for rail applications (EN 60077-1, EN 60077-2), the contactor can also be used in extreme ambient temperatures.
The two-pole DC contactor can switch up to 1,000 volts per contact system; in-series connections up to 1,500 volts. In battery systems, the positive and negative pole can be connected through one pole of the C294 in each case. The contactor can be used in all DC applications in which the load only has to be switched off in one direction:
- Railway technology
- Electric vehicles
- DC drives of machinery
- Pre-charging contactor
In battery systems, the positive and negative pole can be connected through one pole of the C294 in each case.
