C193 – AC and DC Contactors up to 1,200 Volts

Compact single-pole NO contactor for DC or AC with 1,200 V rated insulation voltage. DC design with blowout magnets and arcing chambers. Frequent switching under load.

C193 A

Compact DC contactor with blowout magnets and electric arc arcing chambers. S870 snap-action switch as an optional auxiliary contact.

The single-pole NO contactor C193 can switch on and carry high currents. It was designed for switching loads frequently. The C193 is available as an AC or DC contactor. The DC versions are fitted with blowout magnets. The C193A and C193B designs possess electric arc arcing chambers for DC and AC. The magnetic drive can activated using voltages of 24 to 110 V  DC. A snap-action switch reports the switch state of the main contacts to the higher-level control system.
Developed for use in rail carriages, the C193 also works in extreme ambient temperatures. It is considered to be an especially reliable piece of switchgear with a longer-than-average electrical service life.

Features

Compact design – 1,200 V rated insulation voltage

The C193 contactor offers a rated insulation voltage of 1,200 volts with minimal dimensions. The rated voltage is 1,000 volts.

As a compact and light contactor, the contactor can be placed on a TS35 rail. A top-hat rail assembly is not suitable for applications with heavy vibrations.

DC design with blowout magnets and arcing chambers

During switch off, an electric arc is ignited between the opening contacts. The current flows on through the ionised air. Permanent magnets drive the ionised air out of the contact zone into the arcing chamber. Here, the electric arc is extended and cooled until it goes out.

The C193 A design disconnects currents of up to 90 A with a voltage of 1,000 volts (L/R = 1 ms).

Optional auxiliary contact with snap-action switch

An S870 snap-action switch reports the switch state of the main contacts to the higher-level control system. This changeover contact with positive opening is suitable for safety applications.

Electrical service life: 600,000 switching operations

The C193 is designed for switching loads frequently. The electrical service life is 600,000 switching operations (Un = 1,000 V DC, I = 30 A, L/R = 1 ms).

Ambient temperature: –40°C up to +70°C

Based on its approval for rail applications (EN 60077-1, EN 60077-2), the contactor can also be used in extreme ambient temperatures.

Main contactor and pre-charging contactor in unidirectional DC applications

The C193 can be used in all DC applications in which the load only has to be switched off in one direction:

  • Rail carriages (switching of heating and air-conditioning systems)
  • Electric vehicles (no reversing operation)
  • DC drives of machinery
  • Pre-charging contactor
